I let someone down this week…
I made a commitment, and I blocked it out in my calendar. Then something came along that felt more time sensitive - so I bumped it, thinking, I’ll get to it tomorrow.
It was the kind of action busy people take all the time.
You rearrange that time you had blocked for the important-but-not-urgent project, shuffle things around so you can accommodate that call, that staff meeting, that management team check in.
It’s something I do myself, sometimes countless times in a week.
But this time, I had an epiphany.
This commitment I cancelled was one of my running training sessions (we’re talking Couch to 5K style - and let’s just say I’m a lot closer to couch than 5K at this point...)
And the person I let down in this situation was me.
I’ve been reflecting on this a lot this week. It’s been a month since I posted about the importance of focusing on your priorities for the next 90 days, as year-end is quickly approaching.
Many of you were brave enough to share your amazing goals with me (thank you!) - and if you haven’t heard from me already, I’ll be following up with you soon to see how you’re progressing.
If you’re someone who understands the importance of deciding on a measurable goal, writing it down, and blocking out the time you need to focus on it each week…
Make sure you are following through by taking the important step of honouring that commitment.
Because the most important commitment you can make as a fundraiser is to yourself.
